Title: The effect of nordic walking on the physical fitness and emotional state of a group of women over 60 years of age Objectives: This thesis aimed to verify whether the given exercise program based on Nordic walking (NW) will affect the functional physical fitness and emotional state of a group of senior women. Methods: A total of 23 women with an average age of 68.96 years ± 2.92 participated in the research, and were divided into two groups. Eleven of them were part of the experimental group and 12 women formed the control group. The experimental group attended a 90-minute NW session once a week for 12 weeks. The Senior Fitness Test (Rikli and Jones, 2013) was used to repeatedly assess their physical fitness. The emotional state was assessed before and after the program using the Yesavage Geriatric Depression Scale. A visual analogue scale was used for assessment before and after individual lessons. Results: Upon completion of the 12-week exercise program using Nordic walking, the experimental group experienced a statistically significant improvement in all monitored parameters of the Senior Fitness Test, namely DKK strength, HKK strength, shoulder joint flexibility, dexterity, dynamic balance and aerobic fitness. As the summary graphs show, the improvement of the experimental group compared...
Use of nordic walking after hip joint replacement
KASLOVÁ, Pavlína
This bachelor thesis deals with the use of Nordic walking after hip joint replacement. The theoretical part is divided into two parts. The first part describes the issue of Nordic walking and the proper technique of Nordic walking. Furthermore, this section describes the advantages and disadvantages of Nordic walking and the most common mistakes when walking with sticks. The second part briefly describes the anatomy of the hip joint, coxarthrosis as one of the most common indications for hip joint replacement and there are also mentioned types of hip replacements and subsequent rehabilitation after surgery. The practical part is processed in the form of qualitative research using case reports. The research group consisted of 3 probands who were no more than 1 year after hip replacement. At the first meeting I prepared an initial kinesiological analysis of all probands, according to which I treated them therapeutically and with each I learned the Nordic walking method. Probands walked with sticks regularly 2 - 3 times a week and at the same time performed the exercises I assigned them. After 3 months, I prepared an output kinesiological analysis for each proband and I obtained a subjective evaluation of the Nordic walking method from each of them. This bachelor thesis had a total of 3 goals. The first goal was to describe the issue of Nordic walking and the correct technique of walking with sticks. To describe the advantages and disadvantages of Nordic walking was another goal of the work. Both these objectives are part of the theoretical part. The last aim was to describe the possibilities of applying the Nordic walking method after hip replacement. I found out the results of this goal through the research part, where in all probands there was either a reduction in the pain of the operated hip joint or an increase in the range of motion and muscle strength in the area of the hip joint. However, there was also a positive effect on other parts of the body. For example, reduced neck spine pain. The bachelor thesis can be used as an educational material for physiotherapists who want to include the Nordic walking method in the medical rehabilitation of patients after hip replacement, or it can serve as a source of information for patients.

This part also includes the chapter about diabetes mellitus, its types and impact of NW to the health of the patients with this kind of disease. The practical part is evolved through a qualitative research, which contains case studies with input and output kinesiological analysis. In total there were four patients who participated of the research. In this part there are described research methods as anamnesis, aspection, checkup of stand in modifications, anthropometric parameters, Kasch step-test of physical ability, goniometry, InBody analysis and measurement of the blood pressure. The research took place during ten weeks of motional program in which the patients learnt the right technique of walking and they raised their pulse and physical condition step by step. The research proved positive results in change of body weight, which noticed to losing the bodyweight after finishing the motional program, also improvement of physical condition, some asymmetries of the body was aligned, range of the movement in the joint was increased and the glycemic index was also lowered. This bachelor thesis can be used as a preventive or therapeutical recommendation of NW for patients with diabetes mellitus disease, but also for other diseases of civilization or in the treatment of post-traumatic conditions of musculoskeletal system because during NW there are the relief of supporting joints main joints, empowerment of the musculature of the whole body and the prevention of imbalance disorders.
Nordic Walking and Nordic Running
Pokorný, Matyáš ; Hronzová, Marie (advisor) ; Kuhnová, Věra (referee)
The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of Nordic Walking and Nordic Running, which are modern physical activities based on walking and running, therefore the natural motions of humans, however, combined with significant movements of the arms and upper body as a result of the use of sticks. These activities require mastery of proper technique and selection of appropriate equipment, especially shoes and poles. Simultaneous involvement of upper and lower limbs along with the upper part body muscles leads to equal distribution of weight, respectively relieving joints, and to balanced physical training, which is reflected in increased demands on the circulatory and respiratory systems. The research part first examines the difference in heart rate of Nordic Walking and walking without poles. The observed differences are then compared with the results of other studies. According to our research the difference in heart rate is 13%, which is comparable with the results of the referential studies that came to the values of 14-16%. Another area of the research is to identify the maximum speed of Nordic Running and to determine the best time and the highest average speed of Nordic Running over a distance of 100 m. The maximum speed determined in the study is 22.1 km/hr., the best time for the 100 m is 18.0...
